system has collapsed and your money is gone for good. Trucks that
deliver food to stores will not run, businesses will fail. Things that
we take for granted, like going to the store for groceries, will simply
no longer exist.

In the Great Depression of 1929, people had skills already. They were used to canning and growing their own food. Food at stores came from local farmers. There is no system like this today. Neighbors all knew each other. Few had phones - there was no TV or Internet.
The things that we take for granted now - will simply disappear. Why? Because, our economy is collapsing and when it does, there is nothing left to back up. The dollar, was backed by gold and bullion in 1929. When it's gone this time - it's gone for good.
In the 1929 Depression / Recession, America had every country in the world in debt to it. Now, we are in debt to every country that has anything. America had most of the world's gold supply then too.
In the new Great Depression of 2009, we're simply not ready. We are too reliant on things in our daily lives that require electricity, convenience and modern technology. When people lose all of these things, even average people will turn to crime, just to survive and feed their families.

In this new Depression, things will be bad everywhere, but in the city, things will be terrible. With gang violence already at the highest levels in history already, there will be nowhere that is safe, not even in your own home.
You may still be scoffing and saying, why wouldn't I have electricity, water and gas?
First off, the government can't save you. If you think they can, you should investigate how they handled Katrina. The Government is BROKE! The dollar is becoming worthless and will continue to decline this year until it's worth absolutely nothing. The "banker bailouts" made that inevitable. An overnight collapse is becoming more likely as each day passes.
Who's going to work for nothing? Utility workers? (water, gas, electricity). I don't know where you live, but I do know that when the power goes out in this city, it takes forever to get it turned back on, even when they are getting paid.
